Shopping at Aldi's vs Kroger/Publix/Target - is Aldi's cheaper ?

Have you shopped at Aldi's ? Many people have told me when you shop at Aldi's, you get more food for your dollar than you do at Kroger/Publix/Target.

I was very curious about this because the last time I shopped at Aldi's was when I was visiting Germany (Aldi's headquarters is in Germany) and I disliked the fact you had to put a coin into the shopping cart to get the car and you had to buy your bags...but then again, all of Europe is like that (minus the coin in the shopping cart thing)

And when I shopped at Aldi's in Germany, I didn't notice the prices being cheaper than in a local grocery store. I shopped there because it was the closest to the apartment I was staying at.

After my friend tried to convience me that she can fill up a shopping cart or two at Aldi's and pay less than at Kroger/Publix/Target, I decided to challenge myself.

I drove to Aldi's and decided to do a small bit of shopping and mentally compare prices from there and Kroger/Publix/Target.

I saw M & M's, it was $2 , I picked up a bag because I was craving chocolate. However if I went to Target and did a coupon stack ( a manufacture coupon and with a Target coupon), I would have paid a lot less. Since Aldi's does not accept coupons, I actually paid more than I would have at Target.

milk - $2.78. At Kroger this week, milk is $2.99 when you buy two, with a Kroger card. I decided that the milk was cheaper at Aldi's so I bought four gallons.

Bananas - $0.44 a pound. That is the cheapest I have seen, same goes for other fruits and veggies.

Aldi's is a great place to shop and it is pretty cheap there - that is why they do not use coupons, however, if you like to coupon then I highly recommend you go to Aldi's for certain things and Kroger/Publix/Target for other things -- if it is cheaper there than Aldi's.
