10 Titles for Cobb-Area Girls Track Athletes

The three-day state meet concluded Saturday in Albany.

Athletes in 10 events who represented Cobb, Douglas and Paulding schools brought back first-place medals from the Georgia High School Association girls state track and field championships in Albany. 

Two teams also peformed well in the event, which ran from Thursday through Saturday, as Kell High School finished second in the Class 5A meet and Marietta came in third in Class 6A.

Kell's Kendell Williams closed out her illustrious career with three titles, winning the 5A high jump, long jump and 100-meter hurdles. She earned 11 crowns in her high school career, and on Friday broke her own state record in the long jump.

Marietta's Jenessa Jackson won the Class 6A shot put and was second in the discus throw, while an all-Cobb trio swept the 100-meter hurdles in 6A -- Shanel Burr of North Cobb, Natisha Dixon of Wheeler and Erin Hardnett of Campbell.

  • Pole Vault, 4A: Ashton Matson, Alexander, 10-00.00;
  • High Jump, 5A: Kendell Williams, Kell, 5-08.00;
  • Long Jump, 5A: Kendell Williams, Kell, 20-09.75;
  • Pole Vault, 5A: Elise Moffat, Allatoona, 11-06.00;
  • 1600 Meters, 1A Private: Naomi Grand Pierre, Whitefield Academy, 5:-5:70;
  • 100 Hurdles, 5A: Kendell Williams, Kell, 13.23;
  • 100 Hurdles, 6A: Shanel Burr, North Cobb, 13.98;
  • 300 Hurdles, 6A: Natisha Dixon, Wheeler, 42.78;
  • 1600 Relay, 6A: McEachern (Destiny Riley, Cierra Dunston, Christoni Wynn, MaKenzie Dunmore), 3:45.16.

TOP TEAM FINISHES

  • Class 6A: Marietta 3rd, 40 points; McEachern 4th, 39 points; 
  • Class 5A: Kell 2nd, 44 points; East Paulding 7th, 22 points; Pope 8th, 22 points, Allatoona 10th, 20 points;
  • Class 4A: Alexander 9th, 23 points;
  • Class 1A Private: Whitefield Academy 4th, 41 points; Walker 5th, 33.50 points.
