2 Dead, 15 Injured at Thornton Rd. Accident

Update at 4:42 p.m.

WSB is reporting that 2 women died in the crash, a passenger died on impact and the driver at the hospital. 

Police said based on witness statements, the tractor-trailer had run a red light just before running into the Sentra, WSB reported. A total of six vehicles were involved in the wreck.

An accident shortly ago at the intersection of Thornton and Blairs Bridge Roads resulted in one fatality, 10 patients being treated at the accident scene and five being transported to Atlanta’s Grady Hospital, one by air - two children, three adults.

Austell Gay Christian Group to Hold First Sunday Service

The gay Christian group started in Austell will hold its first Sunday service this week.

The group is looking for musicians, ushers and readers.

According to the Free to Be Me Worship Ministries Meetup page, the group also needs ordained ministers.

"If you are ordained and have not served in your calling and God has been tugging at your heart to get back into the service of Her people, come and see if Free to BE might be the place for you," it states on the page.

Banks Blasts Teachers' Endorsement

A week after his primary opponent  by the leading teachers' group in the county, Cobb Board of Education member David Banks has lashed out at both. 

Banks, who is seeking a second term to the Post 5 seat in East and Northeast Cobb, was highly critical of the Cobb County Association Association of Educators for its support of Lisa Hanson in the July 31 Republican primary. 

"The one thing that is very apparent and should be of utmost concern to all Post 5 voters is the fact that teacher union support is totally predicated on absolute adherence to their agenda," Banks said in his e-mail newsletter distributed on Monday.

BB&T Atlanta Open Hosts 13 Olympic Tennis Players

All four Americans set to play singles at the London Olympics are scheduled to play in the main draw of the BB&T Atlanta Open to be held at Atlantic Station July 14-22.

The tournament is the first men’s event in theEmirates Airline US Open Series.

Andy Roddick, John Isner, Donald Young and Ryan Harrison have been selected to represent the United States at the London Olympics. Additionally, Roddick and Isner are on the Olympics roster as a doubles team.

Ex-Walton Star Returning to UGA

Last week Brandon Burrows was ready , citing a lack of playing time and a desire to play defensive end, the position where he starred at . 

Now, the former Raiders player is back in Athens, reinstated by the Georgia Bulldogs, and grateful to have another chance to prove his worth.
