Play Ball! Smyrna Little League Season Is Underway

OK, not everything was perfect on Saturday morning for the 2011 Smyrna Little League opening day festivities.

Because of some last minute permit issues, the early morning parade didn’t pass through the Smyrna Community Center roundabout, and instead veered off Atlanta Road onto Concord Road and then straight to Brinkley Park.

It left some would-be spectators (including a certain local Patch editor) a tad disappointed to have not caught a glimpse of the extended line of pickup trucks carrying joyful players and coaches.

But the combination of glorious weather and the air of optimism that a new season brings, quickly made everything alright. Proud parents snapped photos, coaches huddled their players and SLL volunteers and sponsors were verbally recognized.

There was the playing of the national anthem, and Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon threw out the ceremonial first pitch. And then finally everyone heard what had not be uttered for many months as SLL President Elaine Isley cried out, “Play ball!’’

And so parents, is your son or daughter involved in little league? Smyrna-Vinings Patch wants to post your pictures, game scores and team news. we need your help.

This area is thriving with sports and we don't want to miss a thing. Coaches, and team moms and dads can easily post game reports, photos and videos. It's so simple that even students can post!

Here are easy instructions for posting your team's activity on Smyrna-Vinings Patch:

1. Register as a user. It's easy. No spam, we promise. Once done, you can post the practice and game schedule, fundraisers, and more to our Calendar of Events, and team news and scores to Announcements.

2. Let's talk about the Calendar of Events. Login, click on Calendar of Events. A form downloads. You fill out the form and upload any pictures.

3. Next, let's cover Announcements. Login, click Announcements. A simple form opens. A win, scores, a Most Valuable Player, Susie's homerun..... post the announcement. Add pictures, if you like.

Psst! Here's a really cool option to post games news and scores live: the Shout Box. It's the box on the upper right of the site that asks, 'What do you have to say?" Login, post game highlights and scores to the Shout Box as they happen. In real time.
