Update: Lovett Heads to AA Championship Game
Lions battle Buford Saturday for state title while the Whitefield Academy Boys Varsity team takes on Athens Christian in the Class A Finals.
The girls basketball team heads to the AAstate championship game Saturday, playing region rival Buford.
Coach Liz Kennedy's Lions will seek the program's first state championship after beating Laney 56-41 in the semifinals on Thursday. The game will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Macon Centreplex.
The win over No. 2 Laney followed a quarterfinal win over No. 1 Model. No. 4 Buford beat unranked Brooks County to head to the championship game, according to the Lovett website.
Lovett, 27-5 on the year, lost 45-39 to Buford in the Region 6-AA finals, before reeling off four straight wins in the state tournament.
Tickets for the championship game are $10, and admission is good for all games played at the venue for the day.
Georgia Public Broadcasting is televising the Lovett-Buford game and other state championships live. The finals will also be streamed live on GPB.org/sports and GHSA.tv. DVDs can be purchased at GHSA.tv.
