Memorial Day Weekend News You Can Use

Whether you're staying in town or hitting the road, we've got news you can use.

Smyrna-Vinings is heading in to a long weekend and we’ve got some important information you’ll need whether you’re staying in town or hitting the road.

If You’re Staying in Town

Remember there will be no trash pickup on Memorial Day, Monday May 28. Here’s the modified schedule:

·        Monday routes picked up on Tuesday.

·        Tuesday routes picked up on Wednesday.

·        Thursday and Friday routes unchanged.

·        No yard waste collection during holiday schedule weeks

And of course there’s no mail and banks are closed in observance of Memorial Day.

If you’re looking for your own way to honor America’s military men and women who gave their lives in service come to the . attracted more than 1,000 people to Smyrna’s Village Green.

The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. and is free to the public. This year’s speakers include Capt. Joe Caley and Maj. Gen. James Livingston. In case of bad weather the ceremony will be held inside the Smyrna Community Center.

The is holding a barbecue following the ceremony. The event is open to the public and barbecue sandwich plates will be for sale. The all-day event also features cakewalks and raffles. 

If You’re Hitting the Road

Remember that May 21 through June 3 is the “Click it or Ticket” campaign. Law enforcement officers nationwide will be cracking down on seatbelt violations.

Georgia’s seatbelt law mandates that all of a vehicle’s front seat occupants must a wear a seatbelt while the car is being operated on a public road. Failure to buckle up gets you a $15 fine.
