Beating the Heat With a Cool Summer Job

Good connections and advice from an older friend helped Angela Gennovario land her first summer job at Cowlick's Yogurt and Floats.

Angela Gennovario is a student in Pebblebrook High School’s performing arts program. She sat down with Smyrna-Vinings Patch to talk about her first summer job at .

How long did you look for a job before you were hired? I actually didn’t look too long because someone had just quit and (my friend) Kristin was already working here. So she just talked to the manger. Josh called me and I got hired. It was really easy.

Did you do anything to prepare for your interview? Were you nervous? I talked to Kristin about it because she had a full-out interview. I pretty much did everything she did. She wore khakis because that’s the advice her sister gave her. So I wore khakis and just tried to look nice and put on a smiling face.

What are your thoughts about your first job? It’s a lot of fun. I think that it teaches you responsibility and how you need to be on time and the value of money. Because, now that you’re earning you know how easy it is to spend, but also how hard it is to get it back.

What advice would you offer other first-time job seekers? I would say just don’t be as nervous. A lot of the managers are really nice especially at places like Cowlick’s. It’s a lot of fun, just don’t be nervous. Everyone is really welcoming.
