Should Tolleson Park Pool Be Open Longer?

Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon proposed extending the pool season at Monday's Committee of the Whole meeting.

Cobb County schools started this week, and that means is only open on weekends for the remainder of the season. However, Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon entertained the idea of keeping Smyrna’s only public pool open longer at Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

Currently the pool opens to swim teams the last week in April and is open to the public seven days a week beginning Memorial Day weekend. The pool’s hours are restricted to weekends only when Cobb County schools begin in August and closes for the season Labor Day weekend.

“It’s open for 10 weeks in a 52-week year,” Bacon said. “It just seems like if we want to invest taxpayers’ money into it, it ought to be open more. I just think it would get more use if it was available to the public more often.”

“It’s open to the public certain hours and then they have members only times,” she said.
