PAWS Foundation Brings Science Enrichment to Teasley Elementary School

The Teasley PAWS Foundation, a charitable nonprofit organization founded to support Teasley,is funding a new science enrichment program at Teasley Elementary School.

As schools throughout the state continue to face budget cuts and staff reductions, the Smyrna-Vinings community has come together to offer a supplemental science enrichment program to students at . As the result of a grant from the Teasley PAWS Foundation, a charitable nonprofit organization founded in 2006 to support Teasley, the school has hired a new science teacher, Corey Rudd. Mrs. Rudd, who brings five years of teaching experience, has a background in education with a science concentration and will teach students from kindergarten through the fifth grade to supplement the standard Georgia science curriculum. According to Mrs. Rudd, the science enrichment program will involve students experiencing science first-hand. “It will be exciting for the children to see that interaction with science does exist outside of a textbook,” added Mrs. Rudd.

Principal Leslie Mansfield said she is thrilled for all Teasley students to be able to
have additional hands-on enrichment in science.  “We want our students to be more globally competitive in the science arena and this enrichment program will open their eyes to all the world of science has to offer.”

According to Elizabeth McRae, co-president of the Teasley PAWS Foundation, continuing funding for the science enrichment program will remain a primary goal of the Foundation.  “We are hopeful that the Smyrna-Vinings community will come together and support the science enrichment program to continue making Teasley great!”

The Teasley PTA also is contributing to the science enrichment program, purchasing science resources and materials for the students.
