Fundraising Kickoff, Talk Like a Pirate Day in Smyrna This Week

Here are five things happening in the Smyrna-Vinings area this week.

1. Smyrna Friends is kicking off their 2013-14 fundraising season on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. with an event at the Heritage at Vinings Clubhouse. The group raises money for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, but the kickoff is an informal meeting. Bring as many people as you want to this fun event!

2. Enjoy live theatre at Southern Polytechnic State University on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Joe Mack Wilson Student Center Theatre will see a production of "Los Valientes," which explores the life and times of prominent Hispanic activists.

3. Join the pirate's life at the Smyrna Public Library on Thursday, Sept. 19, which is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Treasure seekers will get a map of the library, and will receive prizes when they recover the booty. If you need to brush up on your pirate banter, you can use the Mango Languages tool to get started.

4. Shop 'til you drop at a multi-family yard sale which will be held on Friday and Saturday starting at 8 a.m. at 4347 Fawn Ln. Items for sale will include baby toys, maternity clothes, kitchen essentials, and much more.

5. Get baby's body in motion at Movers and Shakers Storytime at the Smyrna Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Each session includes songs, stories, and a fun movement activity at the end of the day to improve your one to two-year-old's motor skills.
