Vintage Toy Sets on Display in Cumberland Area Saturday

Several rare and unique Erector sets will be on display.

Folks of a certain age who remember playing with the original Erector set can relive their childhoods at a toy display happening in Smyrna this weekend.

The A.C. Gilbert Heritage Society’s National Convention will be held at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest hotel from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 12. There is no admission fee to tour the display.

A.C. Gilbert Erector sets were sold in red boxes and contained tiny girders, nuts, bots, and all the tools one would need to build any number of interesting and challenging projects.

Most vintage Erector sets are kept in the North, and rarely make it south of the Mason-Dixon Line, Tom Lindsey, southeast region president of the A.C. Gilbert Heritage Society told The Marietta Daily Journal.

The event is being billed as a fun, family-oriented event where young and old alike can see what children of a bygone era used to play with.
