The Smyrna Fire Department provides emergency services to citizens, businesses and industries in the town of Smyrna. It also provides fire safety education, inspection and investigative services for code enforcement. Overseeing the department is Fire Chief Jason Lanyon. In April 2010, his department had its rating improve from a Class 3 to a Class 2 as a result of the most recent ISO evaluation.
In 2009, the department fielded nearly 5,000 calls while maintaining an average response time of less than four minutes. All City of Smyrna Fire engines are equipped with hydraulic rescue systems and in addition to fire protection, Paramedic fire engines are equipped to provide advanced airway management and defibrillation to heart attack victims.
