Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from a best possible score of 100. A sample inspection form is attached. Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take even more points. Letter grades assigned are A for totals of 100 to 90 points, B for 89 to 80, C for 79 to 70, and U for less than 70.

Don't miss this year's Keep Smyrna Beautiful Garden Tour.
Enjoy food and live music today while touring beautiful community gardens around Smyrna. Keep Smyrna Beautiful is holding its Garden tour Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at the Taylor-Brawner House located at 3180 Atlanta Road. Residents have the opportunity to tour 5 distinct private gardens in the Smyrna community, including the gardens at King Springs Elementary and the Tea Room at the Taylor-Brawner House. There will also be delicious food, live music and a plant sale. All proceeds will go to planting trees at Brawner park and other public lands in the community.

The Cobb Board of Education on Thursday approved a fiscal year 2014 budget that includes five furlough days for teachers and staff, a reduction of 182 teaching positions through attrition, a half-year step increase for employees and taking $41 million from reserves to reach a balance. After the board voted down three other budget proposals -- including an amended version of the tentative budget with a full-year step increase for Cobb County School District employees -- it went back to something it could pass. The $856.3 million budget, which takes effect July 1, is similar to the package that the board tentatively approved on April 29 and that closes a deficit of $86.4 million.
