The 2013 Jonquil City Jog 5K will be held this weekend in downtown Smyrna.
Lace up your shoes and get ready for the 2013 Jonquil City Jog 5K in downtown Smyrna this weekend. At the annual Peachtree Qualifier race this Saturday, April 27, you will get to run or walk for fun, prizes, and to support local schools. On-site registration will take place 7 a.m. at the Smyrna City Hall located at 2800 King Street, followed by the race at 8 a.m. To participate, you can click here to register now at Active.com through 6 p.m. this Thursday, April 25, or register in person at the Smyrna Community Center by noon on Friday, April 26. Enjoy a new twist to a beloved holiday tradition—hunting Easter Eggs in the dark this Saturday, March 30 at Tolleson Park located at 3515 McCauley Road, Smyrna. Children up to age 10 years are asked bring a flashlight and Easter basket, and will be divided into age groups with the youngest beginning their hunt at dusk. Following the hunt, all are invited to watch the full-length feature film Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (PG rated). This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features a holiday themed event in the North Cobb area. The 4th Annual Acworth Turkey Chase 5K Fun Run and 2K Walk will be held this Saturday in Historic Downtown Acworth (5K Fun Run at 9 a.m., 2K Walk at 9:15 a.m., and Little Pilgrim Trot at 10 a.m.). Participants of all ages and abilities can walk, jog or run. Get a head start on that New Year's resolution to shed a few pounds. If you register on the day of the race, the cost is $30 for the timed run, $20 for the untimed fun run (ages 13 and up) and $10 for the untimed fun run (ages 6-12 years old). The Undy 5000 5K Run/Walk to fight colon cancer will return to Metro Atlanta for the third consecutive year. Smyrna resident and colon cancer survivor Dawn Gagliardi is among the hundreds of participants who will be running in their underwear to help raise awareness for the disease this weekend in Marietta. In 2002, Gagliardi was constantly plagued with an upset stomach, discomfort, bloating and extreme pain. She was told that she had Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The IBS treatments, however, did not work for her even after countless visits to the doctor's office. After her visit to a gastroenterologist and receiving a colonoscopy, she was immediately diagnosed with stage II colon cancer at just 31 years old. Along her journey fighting the disease…

Amidst costumes and hundreds of runners chasing Seymour the owl, 28-year-old Wil Cramer set a new course record of 16:28 in the 5K race.
The Fourth Annual Spooktacular Chase took place over the weekend in Smyrna. Runners chased Seymour, the Spooktacular Chase's owl mascot, through the streets of Smyrna in this 5K Peachtree Qualifier. Proceeds for the fundraiser benefit Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia, a Cobb County non-profit that provides service to North Georgia’s blind and low vision residents.

Lace up those sneaks for two good causes in Smyrna with next Saturday’s Spooktacular Chase and the Spartan Sprint 5K Road Race two weeks later. Chase Seymour the Spooktacular Chase's owl mascot through the streets of Smyrna, Saturday, Oct. 22 in this 5K Peachtree Qualifier. Proceeds for the fundraiser, formerly known as Race to See, benefit Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia, a Cobb County non-profit that provides service to North Georgia’s blind and low vision residents.
