Groundbreaking for Akers Mill Trail
Cobb officials recently broke ground at the new trail at Cumberland Boulevard in the Smyrna-Vinings area.
Friday's groundbreaking ceremony held by Cobb County officials marked the beginning of construction for Akers Mill Trail East around Vinings. The new multi-use trail segment along Akers Mill Road will start at Cumberland Boulevard, and connect the existing Bob Callan Trail to National Park Service at Chattahoochee River's Cochran Shoals Recreation Area. The 1.2-mile trail is part of a $2.5 million project entirely funded by commercial property assessments from the Cumberland Community Improvement District. It will contribute to the 25 miles of trail networks planned in and around the Cumberland area. About 16 miles of those trails already exist.
