The Chick-fil-A controversy continues, with company President Dan Cathy speaking out on recent events that led some to believe that the company was backing off its stance on marriage. According to the Huffington Post, on Sept. 21, Cathy issued a statement on former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s website denying these reports, claiming the company has made no "concessions" to gay marriage supporters. “There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. Andrea Sneiderman was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with murder and fraudulent insurance claims, among other charges. Read more on Dunwoody Patch. Authorities in Rabun County are looking for a Kennesaw man who went missing while in the North Georgia mountains. According to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Richard Arnold "Rick" Masters, 56, was reported missing on July 21 by his brother, who lives in Acworth, after not being heard from in two days. Masters reportedly liked to hike in the area of Tallulah Falls, and his unoccupied Jeep Cherokee was found last Thursday at the end of Kelsey Mountain Road, which is where he likely had been hiking, the newspaper reports. Kali Jones was one of only 25 recipients out of more than 1,500 candidates to receive the 2011 S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award.
Kali Jones, who has worked for more than four years at the Chick-fil-A Vinings location on Cumberland Parkway, has been chosen to receive the 2011 S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award. The award is given to only 25 restaurant team members each year and Jones was selected from more than 1,500 candidates. Jones, a Marietta resident and 2010 graduate of Whitefield Academy, currently is studying history at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., and received the $1,000 scholarship award from Jason Bilotti, franchised operator of the Vinings store. “Kali is an exceptional team member with strong leadership skills, great customer service and a winning attitude,” said Bilotti. “It’s a pleasure to reward those efforts with this prestigious scholarship …

The Great Tea Giveaway from Chick-fil-A restaurants is continuing through Aug. 13, but you better act fast if you want to score a free half-gallon of tea. That’s because in order to score this freebie, you have to make an online reservation and space is limited. While some Chick-fil-A restaurants around the greater metro Atlanta area are no longer taking reservations, four in the Smyrna-Vinigs still are as of Friday morning. They include the one at 1324 Cumberland Mall, plus Chick-fil-A locations at 2485 Cumberland Parkway, 5120 S Cobb Drive and 3100 S Cobb Drive. Vinings Church has organized a service event, serveCOBB, to help better our surrounding community. Home Depot and Chick-fil-A are lending their support with discounted materials and free food for the July 23 event that is in need of volunteers. Area schools that will be given attention and love will be Nickajack and Teasley elementary and Campbell Middle. The Chattahoochee National Park will also be a site of service. Voluneeers are asked to meet at the Vinings Home Depot at 2450 Cumberland Parkway at 9 a.m. Registration is preferred to help with a food count, but walkups are welcomed.
