Campbell's Valedictorian, Salutatorian Embody IB

A commitment to serving others and learning about other cultures - not just perfect grades - marks Campbell's valedictorian and salutatorian as IB students.

Campbell High School’s valedictorian and salutatorian are the embodiment of the International Baccalaureate Organization, a group whose mission is "to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect."  Suraj Bhat and Priyanka Krishnan exhibited this philosophy through their service activities and commitment to the study of other cultures in high school and beyond. Bhat, the valedictorian, explained how he and other members of Campbell’s French Honor Society used their knowledge for good. “We have this French Honor Society and we helped to translate this document that’s for the Carter Center,” he said. “It’s a manual essentially on…

Safe Graduation Celebration Tips

The Cobb Alcohol Task Force is encouraging youth and families to mark the special day responsibly.

As high school graduation ceremonies near and friends gather to celebrate, parents are encouraged to know their responsibility to provide a safe environment for their graduate. Parents tempted to permit the use of alcohol by their graduate and friends can be subject to criminal and/or civil action for illegally providing alcohol to minors. According to Georgia law, parents cannot give alcohol to their teen’s friends who are under age 21, under any circumstances. However, Georgia law states parents can allow their own child to consume alcohol under their direct supervision and in their own home. Under these parental exceptions, should a child drink to intoxication and cause harm to another after leaving their home, parents can be held …

Special Grad Ceremony Promised for Students Who Pass Summer Retest

Several Cobb County seniors won't walk with their classmates this weekend because they failed a test that's being phased out.

Thousands of Cobb County high school seniors will walk across the stage with their classmates as part of graduation ceremonies this weekend. Some seniors will not have that chance due to a standardized test being phased out this year. Passing the Georgia High School Graduation Test is a requirement for all Georgia high school seniors to graduate from high school. The test consists of four subject areas–science, social studies, math and English-language arts. According to the Georgia Department of Education, students have up to five chances to take the test and earn a passing grade, which is basic proficiency score. However, after next year, the GHSGT is no longer a mandatory requirement for graduation. Students who enrolled between Fall …

Lovett Valedictorian, Salutatorian Ivy League Bound

The Lovett School recognizes its class of 2012 valedictorian and salutatorian.

Zainub Dhanani, valedictorian:  If ever one was looking for the "total package," this young scholar more than fits the bill. Zainub maintains a low-key, reserved, mild-mannered confidence. She is respectful and engaging with a great deal of moral fortitude; and yet, she is always striving to be better. Zainub has an excellent work ethic and impeccable organizational skills. She is consistently prepared and focused in class, setting an example for her peers and helping to establish a productive tone during each and every lesson. Zainub is heavily committed to community service. For example, she was founder and co-president of the World Relief Club and Jamie Allen Food Distribution here at Lovett. She has also worked with a Somalian …
