Official: Cobb Swimming Pools Safe

The remarks were made in the wake of a CDC study that found that 58 percent of the pool filter samples taken from metro Atlanta public pools tested positive for E. coli.

Despite a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that found fecal bacteria in more than half of the water samples taken from metro Atlanta public swimming pools, Cobb officials said the county's pools are safe. Last summer, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett and state environmental health specialists worked with the CDC to collect samples from public pools. A report released Thursday found that 58 percent of the pool filter samples tested were positive for E. coli, bacteria normally found in the human gut and feces. No need to be alarmed, Bob McCallister, aquatics manager for Cobb County Parks and Recreation, told The Marietta Daily Journal. Spring Sports Registration Starts

Don't miss the chance to register for Cobb County's youth league and adult athletic programs.

Now is the time to register for sports and activities for the spring season. Registration starts in January for many sports and activities in Cobb County's youth league programs, including baseball, softball, soccer, track, tennis, and BMX.   The programs are coordinated by volunteer organizations with different dates and times for registrations. For specific information on the activities your child is interested in participating, click on the following links:  Adult spring softball registration begins in February.
