President Barack Obama readies for Tuesday's State of the Union; Gingrich and GOP candidates could be destined for Super Tuesday Republican Presidential Debate at CEPAC.
Fresh from watching Newt Gingrich's victory in the South Carolina GOP primary over the weekend, the nation’s political eyes turn to Washington where President Barack Obama will deliver the State of the Union address on Tuesday night. The annual speech allows presidents to boldly state their case to both Congressional houses as well as the nation. But despite the ambitious claims, presidents like Obama often see their grandiose visions go unfulfilled in the face of messy and bipartisanship government. By Constitutional design, the president’s power is limited when it comes to solving certain issues and Americans are increasingly asking Congress to do what it was elected to do and that’s work for the people. Of course Obama has his fair …

Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre is an exception to the rule. The venue established the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Foundation for the purpose of community outreach and arts education. ArtsBridge, the Centre’s Foundation arts education initiative, is rolling out its fifth season of wowing young audiences and educators with dazzling productions, field trips, workshops, master classes, artists-in-schools and the Shuler Hensley Awards - The Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards. Eight years, eight months and 25 days after it began, America’s war in Iraq came to a quiet and uncertain end on Thursday. With major questions about Iraq’s future and security unsettled, the United States wasn’t declaring victory during Thursday ceremonies and speeches. What is fact is that the war numbers are sobering. The U.S. lost 4,484 military personnel since 2003 in Iraq. Of those, 142 hailed from Georgia, but according to Vet Friends, none were from Smyrna. A total of 32,226 U.S. soldiers were seriously wounded in the war and they may require care for the rest of their lives. Iraqi civilians suffered enormously and according to data from Iraq Body Count, which monitors reported deaths, the estimate is that 113,728 Iraqis died. And …

The 2011-12 season for The Atlanta Opera opens Saturday night at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
Many of us “uncultured” folk have never experienced the opera in real life. If you are indeed one of us, why not take the short jaunt to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre to see The Atlanta Opera perform Lucia di Lammermoor. The website summarizes the story thusly: “Lucia’s forced marriage sets off a chain of tragic events that leads to the most spectacular mad scene in opera. Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor reveals chilling tragedy on a grand scale and will leave you breathless.” Authentic opera is always sung in Italian, but there will be helpful English supertitles above the stage. Luca di Lammermoor begins Saturday, Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. Other show times are Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20…
