Access the Arts at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre will be held on Sunday, Aug. 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and on Monday, Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This showcase of Cobb Energy’s resident companies—Gas South Broadway Series, The Atlanta Opera and Atlanta Ballet—features entertainment, raffles, and food and drink samples from the centre’s executive chef M.G. Farris and local restaurants. It also offers patrons a chance to “test-drive” the centre’s seats. The resident companies will also be offering special promotions on subscriptions. Gas South Broadway Series is offering a complimentary ticket to “Neil Berg’s Broadway Holiday Show” for every subscription purchased. The Atlanta Opera is waving the $15 fee for every subscription …

Vinings resident shines at musical theatre awards ceremony; lots of performances and event happenings in the coming weeks at Cobb Energy.
Whether it plays classic rock, opera, musicals or ballet, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center has something for everyone. Check out what’s happening this month and next. The Third Annual Shuler Hensley Awards honoring musical theater in Georgia high schools will broadcast Friday, Aug. 12, at 8 p.m. on WSB-TV Channel 2. The awards show took place this past April at Cobb Energy and honored students in 15 different categories including overall production, leading actor and actress, supporting actor and actress, music direction, costume, lighting and scenic design and chorus ensemble. Randy Travis is coming to the Cobb Energy Center tonight as part of his 25th anniversary celebration tour. Showtime is set for 8 p.m. and tickets are still available here. But if you want to win free tickets, then brush up on the performer's song lyrics and check out Cobb Energy’s facebook page for an 12 p.m. trivia question. Travis released his latest album last month entitled “Anniversary Celebration” and it features duets with the likes of Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, George Jones, Kristin Chenoweth, Don Henley and more. If you belong to the former category, this is your lucky chance to see the funny guy do his irreverent stuff at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Beginning as a stand-up comic way back in 1979, Maher’s career has followed an impressive ever-upward trajectory. Always pushing the envelope, Maher sharpened his TV chops on the un-P.C. Comedy Central show "Politically Incorrect." Later, Maher had a successful run on HBO’s "Real Time," for which he earned 21 Emmy nominations.
