Opposition Increases Concerning Cobb EDGE Plan

The five-year EDGE project is designed to address job creation, entrepreneurship, cultivating community and "a sense of place" as well as marketing Cobb County and "projecting a positive image."

Should Cobb taxpayer money be used to help spur economic development in the county? That's a bet Cobb commission chairman Tim Lee is hedging as he pledged last week to help fund a major initiative by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce.  But commissioner JoAnn Birrell spoke out against the proposal, according to a report in The Marietta Daily Journal on Friday, saying the county should not commit to funding that it cannot control. The Chamber initiative, called Competitive EDGE (Economic Development for a Growing Economy), would come with a still-to-be-determined contribution from Cobb government. Chamber's Competitive EDGE initiative identifies economic opportunities

Consultant suggests Cobb focus on seven targets for highly effective job growth for the county, but are they the right ones?

A consultant to the Cobb Chamber of Commerce has identified seven targets for economic development, Chamber Chief Operating Officer Demming Bass told the county Board of Commissioners on Tuesday: Those are the initial recommendations from Midtown Atlanta-based Market Street Services as it carries out the Chamber’s four-part, six-month Competitive EDGE (Economic Development for a Growing Economy) initiative. The county board heard the midway update on the project during the afternoon, then voted 5-0 Tuesday night to approve economic development changes that give Cobb more flexibility to offer incentives to companies to move to or expand in the county, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.
