What makes a father a dad?
The author cites examples of how his own father stepped up for him, even when it wasn't required.
There is a story about my dad that I always take pride in telling, one that took place in his life before I was born. When he and my mom were married in the early 70s, all he had for transportation was a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Like anyone who owns a Harley, he loved it. I'm sure he rode it with great pride. It was, after all, a Harley. Then, life happened. Mom found out she was pregnant with me. All of the sudden, no matter how cool the Harley Davidson was, he knew it wasn’t cut out to haul a baby around on. The only way they could afford a car at that time was to sell the coveted Harley and without hesitation, he sold it.
