No Injuries Reported From Cooking Fire at Delmar Gardens
The cooking fire was extinguished by the overhead sprinkler system soon after it began.
No injuries were reported after a pot left on a stove started a small cooking fire at Delmar Gardens of Smyrna, a senior living community at 404 King Springs Village Parkway. Smyrna Fire Chief Jason Lanyon said the fire department received notice that a fire alarm had been triggered at the assisted living community at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. The department made contact with staff who alerted to the department to a possible fire on the third floor of an individual unit on the assisted living side of the complex. When officers arrived on the scene the fire had been extinguished by one of the apartment’s sprinkler heads. So glad no one was hurt. It was actually the "Independent Living" section of the facility. Also....a maintenance worker began extinguishing the fire along withe the sprinkler system. He then crawled through the smokey apartment to turn off the electricity at the breaker box. Kudos to him !!! The residents were evacuated to the OUTSIDE of the faciity first and were brought blankets from the staff …   more ›
