Smyrna to Host Circle of Prayer [VIDEO]

More than 300 churches in Cobb County have been invited to join hands to pray Friday at Smyrna's Emory-Adventist Hospital.

Smyrna and Cobb County's faith community will join hands to form a "Circle of Prayer" Friday evening at Emory-Adventist Hospital in Smyrna. The event to rededicate the hospital will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, and members of more than 300 churches in Cobb County have been invited to participate. Last year, more than 250 worshippers held hands in a chain that wrapped around Emory-Adventist, Cobb County’s only faith-based hospital.

Emory-Adventist Hospital Has $100 Million Impact on Local, State Economy

However, EAH leadership is concerned about the growing number of uninsured patients.

A recent report from the Georgia Hospital Association found that despite being in the midst of a recession Emory-Adventist Hospital had an estimated economic impact of $115,439,156 in 2010. The GHA’s estimate was based on the “ripple effect” of the 88-bed hospital’s $49,904,529 in expenditures on the economy in areas like medical supplies and equipment. The ripple effect is an economic multiplier developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis. In a press release announcing the results of the study, a representative from EAH emphasized that not only did the hospital have more than a $100 million economic impact in a recession; it did so while providing more than $8 million in uncompensated care for uninsured …

It is a nice facility and they give back to our community. My family has used the ER on more occasions then I would like to recall. I am grateful that they are a part of Smyrna. For the individuals that do nothing but complain – take your business to another hospital.   more ›

5K Fit Group Conquers the Jonquil City Jog

Emory-Adventist Hospital's 5K Fit Group trained for four months to take on the Jonquil City Jog Saturday, April 28.

The 5K Fit Group from Emory-Adventist Hospital ran in the Jonquil Jog on Saturday, April 28. Many members of the group participated in a series of classes called “The 5K Fit Series” that started in January 2012 and concluded in April.  The classes offered the participants helpful information on training for a 5K.  For many of the participants, this was their first 5K.

Smyrna-Vinings Health News You Can Use

The Foundation of Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna reached its goal to raise $220,000 for Digital Mammography equipment at the hospital.

The Foundation of Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna has completed its digital mammography fundraising campaign. Foundation chairman, Jim McDaniel, recently presented members of Emory-Adventist Hospital administration and radiology departments with a check for $83,079.12 at the Foundations board meeting. The check presentation brings the total funds raised to $220,000 for the hospital’s digital mammography equipment. “The Foundation is pleased to provide this state-of-the-art technology to our community,’’ said Gwen Baldwin, foundation director. “Our board members have worked hard in executing various fundraising events, and those efforts along with a generous anonymous donation have brought this campaign to a close.” The Foundation has …
