The Cobb County Police Department tonight released the identity of the man who died after this morning's single-vehicle accident just west of the intersection of the East-West Connector and Fontaine Road. Just before 11:15 a.m., 67-year-old Nelson Villavicencio of Austell was driving westbound in a white 2011 Hyundai Elantra when he drove off the roadway, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, the spokesman for the police department. The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy, but investigators suspect that Villavicencio "may have experienced some type of medical distress" when he drove off the roadway and struck trees on the northern edge of the grass shoulder, Pierce said. Cobb County Police officials are investigating a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Smyrna that killed a Buford resident. According to a CCPD news release, the crash occurred at about 1:43 p.m. in Smyrna on the westbound Interstate 285 ramp to South Cobb Drive. The incident, according to authorities, saw a red and white 1998 Link Belt HTC8670 crane truck that was stopped in traffic struck in the rear by a black 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. After striking the truck, the Cruze rolled backwards down the ramp toward southbound traffic on I-285, coming to a stop after rolling down the embankment between the interstate and ramp. A Marietta woman died late Christmas Eve in a two-car collision on Smyrna Powder Springs Road, and Cobb Police say poor weather conditions, including dense fog, were a contributing factor. Luca Kosic, 46, of Marietta, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at the intersection of Smryna Powder Springs Road and Trellis Oaks Drive, according to Cobb Police spokesman Michael Bowman. He said Kosic was a passenger in a gold 1999 Toyota Camry traveling southbound on Smyrna Powder Springs Road shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday when it was struck by a maroon 1994 Toyota Camry heading northbound.
