One Dead in Smyrna Wreck

The fatal crash occurred Thursday afternoon on Interstate 285 near South Cobb Drive.

Cobb County Police officials are investigating a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Smyrna that killed a Buford resident. According to a CCPD news release, the crash occurred at about 1:43 p.m. in Smyrna on the westbound Interstate 285 ramp to South Cobb Drive. The incident, according to authorities, saw a red and white 1998 Link Belt HTC8670 crane truck that was stopped in traffic struck in the rear by a black 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. After striking the truck, the Cruze rolled backwards down the ramp toward southbound traffic on I-285, coming to a stop after rolling down the embankment between the interstate and ramp. One Dead, Three Severely Injured in Crash

Investigators believe that alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in this wreck that that left one man dead and three teens severely injured.

A fatal crash occurred Thursday afternoon on South Gordon Road in Austell, leaving one man dead and three others severely injured including a 19 year old from Smyrna, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Investigators said that the driver of a silver 1991 Saturn was traveling eastbound on South Gordon Road approaching Songwood Drive when the vehicle crossed the double yellow line and struck a concrete curb on the other side of the roadway. After striking the curb, the car began to rotate while continuing to travel in an easterly direction, and struck a tree before coming to an uncontrolled rest in the front yard of a residence, according to Cobb police. Police: Smyrna Man Fled After Killing Wife

Smyrna police are looking for Derrick Williams, who is accused of strangling his wife to death, and is currently at large.

Smyrna police are looking for a man who is considered armed and dangerous in connection with the Dec. 5 death of his wife. Derrick Williams of Smyrna, 35, is wanted for killing his wife, 33-year-old Finesse Dawson, said Smyrna police spokesman Michael Smith. Smith said autopsy results from the Cobb County Medical Examiner revealed evidence of strangulation as a cause of death. After allegedly beating and strangling his wife to death, Williams cleaned up his wife's body and wrapped her in bedding to hide the crime before fleeing the scene, according to investigators.  The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that "Williams is a convicted felon who spent seven months in prison last year on weapon and drug charges," and was again arrested in…

Updated: Fatal Crash Near Cumberland Mall

A man died after a Friday night crash where his Chevrolet was struck twice at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Akers Mill Road.

Cobb authorities have released the identity of the deceased driver after notifying his next of kin. Warrren Thomas of Atlanta, 59, was pronounced dead upon his arrival at the hospital after the Friday night crash. The Cobb County Police Department is still investigating the fatal crash, and asks anyone with information to call 770-499-3987. Pedestrian Struck, Dies After Crash

A 55-year-old Smyrna man was struck Sunday night on South Cobb Drive. No charges are expected to be filed, according to Cobb police.

A pedestrian was hit on South Cobb Drive and later pronounced dead Sunday night, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Authorities say Jose Luis Zamarripa-Perez of Smyrna, 55, was attempting to cross South Cobb Drive near the intersection of Waldrep Circle at about 7:45 p.m. when he was struck by a black 1990 Jeep Cherokee. Preliminary investigation suggests that Zamarripa-Perez was walking westbound and not at a pedestrian crosswalk, and the driver, 63-year-old Nafisa V. Sheriff of Marietta, was traveling southbound on South Cobb Drive. Zamarripa-Perez was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Smyrna Woman Dies After Crash

Charges aren't expected against 26-year-old Nicholas Weinberg.

Cobb police were informed Tuesday by the Cobb Medical Examiner's Office that Andrea Brantley of Smyrna has died from injuries caused by a head-on crash in September in Marietta. Brantley, 69, was driving west Sept. 18 in a 2012 Toyota Camry on Ridge Road when she collided with a 1999 Mercedes traveling east, Cobb police said. She was taken to Emory Adventist Hospital. The driver of the Mercedes, 26-year-old Nicholas Weinberg of Powder Springs, said at the time that he would seek medical treatment on his own. Charges aren’t expected in the crash, police said.
