The Smyrna Public Library will offer two exciting programs for children, families, and adults in celebration of Black History Month. With the donation and support from the Friends of the Smyrna Library, these programs are free and open to the public. On Saturday, Feb. 23, the library will host a storytelling program for children and families from 11 a.m.-noon. The Cobb Cluster of the Southern Order of Storytellers, members of the Kuumba Storytellers, and the youth Tattle Tales group will be featured. Children and adults alike will share stories about notable African Americans and African dolls will be featured at the program as well. “We can preserve our history by preserving the art of storytelling,” said storyteller Margaret Edinburgh. …

Library patrons can check out up to five eBooks at a time.
Smyrna Public Library now offers eBooks. The collection currently has 327 titles including children’s books, adult best sellers and adult classics. Library Director Michael Seigler announced the launch of Smyrna’s eBooks program at a recent Smyrna City Council meeting. Friends of the Smyrna Library funded the project. “They paid for it all,” he said. “Not one cent of taxpayer money went into this initial set up. The Friends are one of the greatest assets the library’s got.” The eBooks can be checked out on desktops, laptops, Android-based phones and tablets, iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch and Kindle Fire eReaders. Two local chapters of Friends of the Library are hosting book Friday through Sunday.
There are two great chances to get good deals on books in our Patch and beyond this weekend thanks to book sales sponsored by friends of the library. Friends of the Smyrna Library are hosting a yogurt social and book sale Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. inside the library as part of the yearlong celebration of the Smyrna Public Library's 75th anniversary. “The ice cream social is our key event that we do for appreciation for our members of Friends of the Library,” said Jeff Jones, a member of Friends of the Smyrna Library. Pinkberry at Akers Mill will serve its frozen yogurt and Peter Vogl will provide the tunes. The Friends of the Smyrna Library will also be selling New York Times bestsellers and gift-quality books all priced at $1 or $3. …

I was told it does Kindle but only Kindle Fire. I have the Kindle version before that. But depair not. Cobb Co.
