This Sunday, April 7, the American Legion Post 160 of Smyrna will host its 25th Annual Fundraiser for Special Olympics-Cobb. The event will be held from noon to 6 p.m. at Post 160's office located at 160 Legion Drive in Smyrna. Smyrna-Vinings and Cobb residents are invited to join the American Legion family and enjoy silent and live auctions, food, music and performances by Special Olympics Gymnastic Team. Admission is $5. Join the Lassiter High School community this weekend to support an injured high school student.
This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Christopher Heitzman Benefit 5K Run. The event takes place Saturday morning at Lassiter High School, with proceeds to help pay for medical expenses for the injured graduate. Heitzman, who graduated from Lassiter last spring, was seriously injured in a car accident last July on Trickum Road that killed his classmate, Ryan Aschenbach, and injured another recent Lassiter graduate Tylor Seaman. Heitzman sustained a head injury and several broken bones, and will need more surgeries. The fundraiser has collected just under $40,000 from pre-registration, and is hoping to raise more money to help cover Heitzman's medical expenses. Pre-registration for the run is $20 …
