Furry Forecaster Ready for Groundhog Day

Just before 8 a.m. on Feb. 2, Gen. Beau Lee will emerge and predict whether there will be six more weeks of winter.

According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, sunrise for Lilburn, Ga., on Feb. 2 is at 7:32 a.m. That means Gen. Beauregard Lee could emerge from his home around that time. So, if you don't want to miss the South's very own groundhog, be early. Visitors are allowed in beginning at 7 a.m. General Beau Lee is set to make his annual weather prediction at the Yellow River Game Ranch. It's been a wacky weather week in Georgia -- 70-degree temperatures, tornadoes, and lots of rain, and in the past two weeks frigid temperatures and icy roads have been a problem. Punxsutawney Phil predicts more winter weather

However, Phil's claim is being disputed by his Southern rival.

Punxsutawney Phil may have predicted more winter weather for Pennsylvania, but Georgia’s own weather-predicting groundhog had a very different idea. Gen. Beauregard Lee predicted an early spring from Lilburn this morning. Hopefully the boys can respectfully disagree and this won't lead to bad blood between Southern and Yankee woodchucks. Judging by the jonquils that have been blooming in my yard since January the General was correct. What do you think? Tell us in our poll.
