It's time for Halloween decorating. I've been around the Trick-or-Treat block more than a few times and decorating the outside of the house has become one of the family's favorite things to do each year. What started with a couple of carved pumpkins on the front stoop the night before Halloween has grown into a weekend-long family activity filled with store-bought and hand-made decorations, arts and crafts, and lots of strategy — like whether white trash bags are a fitting replacement for actual sheets when crafting ghosts. If you enjoy watching characters sleep while their furniture moves around them, I have just the movie.
A Nevada family plays host to a very odd 6-year-old neighbor boy whose unseen mother has suddenly been hospitalized in "Paranormal Activity 4." A group of young unknown actors jump into the Paranormal Activity formula without a hitch. The long stretches of green night-cam footage manage to creep you out as you try to figure out if you just saw movement in the corner. And when something eventually flies across the screen, no matter how much you try to anticipate it, you jump. A neighborhood witches' coven plays into the proceedings, adding to the drama. Lace up those sneakers for the annual Halloween themed 5k race in Smyrna.
Get ready to race for a good cause this Saturday in Smyrna during the Fourth Annual Spooktacular Chase. You'll get to chase Seymour, the Spooktacular Chase's owl mascot, through the streets of Smyrna in this 5K Peachtree Qualifier. Proceeds for the fundraiser benefit Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia, a Cobb County non-profit that provides service to North Georgia’s blind and low vision residents. The 5K and 1K Fun Run both start at 8 a.m. at Cobb Park located at 2776 Sanford Road across the street from Campbell High School. The fastest runners in each age group will receive a spooky owl bobblehead trophy. Participants are encouraged to dress in costume. All proceeds from the Fall Festival this Saturday will benefit the American Cancer Society and its first Vinings-Smyrna Relay for Life event.
The Vinings Jubilee Fall Festival will be held this Saturday, Oct. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Tower Stage. Residents will get a chance to enjoy family-friendly activities including: All proceeds from the Fall Festival will benefit the American Cancer Society and its first Relay for Life event in the Smyrna-Vinings area.
