Where to Recycle Your Christmas Tree

This year's "Bring One for the Chipper" tree recycling event is being held at the Home Depot on Cumberland Parkway Saturday.

What can you do with your live Christmas tree after the holidays are over? Bring it for the Chipper today! The Home Depot on Cumberland Parkway and Keep Smyrna Beautiful are hosting the Smyrna-Vinings area site for the Christmas tree recycling event on Saturday, Jan. 5. Keep Smyrna Beautiful will offer citizens a free tree seedling for each tree dropped off while they last. Vegetable and flower seed packets will also be available. Volunteers will be on hand to direct traffic and to help citizens unload their trees. Davey Tree Experts will chip the trees and deliver free mulch. Last year, 67,175 trees were chipped in the Metro Atlanta area. If you would like to donate your tree, simply remove all the ornaments and the base and bring it to …

wow...im glad i came across this article...my fam is always trying to find new ways to reuse or make better use of stuff. and since we are big on christmas i will def let them know about this. we get a lot of decorations from different places like the homeseasons website and its always a good time. usually have like 3 trees throughout our home, so we can def make something of this.   more ›

Home Depot to Recruit Workers

The company will be recruiting for bi-lingual supervisors who are fluent in both Spanish and English.

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) will help Home Depot fill a number of jobs. The recruitment for Home Depot is set for Thursday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at the GDOL’s Cobb-Cherokee Career Center. The company will be recruiting for bi-lingual supervisors who are fluent in both Spanish and English. Applicants must have a high school diploma or a General Education Diploma (GED) and have at least one year of supervisory experience. Applicants will be required to apply on-line at the recruitment unless they have already applied at http://careers.homedepot.com/?HDCAREERS&view. Vinings Home Depot, Smyrna Sparkles Hiring

Monday's a holiday, but it's still day when local businesses are hiring.

Looking for a job? Well, The Home Depot is planning to hire more than 1,500 season employees in metro Atlanta for the busy spring season. According to the Vinings-based retailer, many of the seasonal jobs, which typically last around 120 days, could turn into permanent positions. "A seasonal job at The Home Depot can often lead to a regular position if you're passionate about customer service," Home Depot’s Executive Vice President for Human Resources Tim Crow said in a statement. Home Depot to Bring 700 Jobs to Kennesaw

The center will open with more than 400 associates and is expected to expand to 700 positions by 2015.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday that The Home Depot, headquartered in Vinings, will open a $24 million national customer service call center in Kennesaw, bringing nearly 700 new jobs to the area. Recruiting for the new positions begins in early 2012 with the call center expected to be fully operational by late 2012, according to a release from the governor's office. The company, which intends to lease space in the Chastain Meadows office park, plans to initially hire more than 400 associates but expects to expand to 700 positions by 2015. From Nov. 3-13, customers can bring in their old working or non-working Christmas light strings to be recycled and receive a coupon for up to $5 off the purchase of energy efficient seasonal light-emitting diodes (LED) string lights.

The Home Depot, which is headquartered in Vinings and operates a store at 2450 Cumberland Parkway, begins its Fourth Annual Eco Options Christmas Light Trade-In event beginning Thursday. New this year, Home Depot has increased the savings, launching a tiered coupon program ranging from $3 to $5 off select energy efficient lighting. Smyrna's Unemployment Rate Dips; Home Depot Sending Jobs Overseas

The Jonquil City's unemployment rate is still higher than the national and state averages according to data released by the Georgia Department of Labor.

Smyrna’s unemployment rate was down to 10.9 percent in September from 11.1 percent in August. That’s still higher than the state’s rate of 10.3 percent and the U.S. unemployment rate of 9.1 percent last month. Around 160 citizens found employment in Smyrna, in September, according to data released by the Georgia Department of Labor. The City has a labor force of 28,253 people. Estimates show 25,185 people are employed. Meanwhile from Vinings, WSB-TV is reporting that The Home Depot is shifting white collar jobs from its 2455 Paces Ferry Road headquarters to India. They'll go offshore until they realize how unprofitable it is. There's a trend for corporations to bring all of their operations back to the US. Too bad HD won't learn from their mistakes. The cultural differences, language differences, increase in salaries in these countries are forcing them to leave.
