The West Hamilton Beach Volunteer Fire Department in New York state will soon receive a fire truck donated Wednesday by Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services.
A former Cobb County fire truck will have a new home in New York later this month. Officials from Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services held Wednesday morning a ceremony that saw the department donating a surplus fire engine—a 1992 Pierce Arrow Red Pumper with 177,292 miles on it—to the West Hamilton Beach Volunteer Fire Department, which is based in Howard Beach, N.Y. The fire truck donation stems from Cobb Fire’s ongoing partnership with the Georgia Chapter of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund, which has identified a number of departments in the northeastern U.S. that lost equipment as a result of Hurricane Sandy last year. “They lost everything … their firehouse was flooded, their engines, their ambulances, their turnout gear, their…

Employees help out, and you can, too.
It's been said it's far better to have a neighbor who's near, than a brother who's far away, but in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Americans across the nation have proven to be the best neighbors and the strongest of families. This past weekend, AOL and Patch employees took an opportunity to pitch in, packing two tractor trailers worth of food, water and supplies in Dulles, VA, and Baltimore. The donations are headed to Hurricane Sandy ravaged areas in New Jersey and Long Island. Want to join the relief efforts? Click here to donate: https://donate.networkforgood.org/aol "When a catastrophe of this size hits, we all feel it, both the hundreds of us who live in the impacted towns, and our colleagues who are watching and wishing they could …

Areas along the East Coast were under mandatory evacuations Monday as Hurricane Sandy barreled toward the shore. Reports of damage were pouring in, and a number of roads were impassable, including those that usually do not experience flooding. Residents were advised not to try driving over them because the water might be deeper than it looked. Several of our sister Patch sites have photo galleries and videos of the storm: The bodies of two North Carolina boys were pulled from a submerged car in South Carolina after search crews saw the bumper and license plate Sunday night near the Wateree River. This comes after a three-week search for Jake Ziegler and Ray Pierce, who went missing from Catawba County, NC. They told family members they …
