A Woodstock woman who was hit by a truck in an alleged hit-and-run incident last month in Athens opened her eyes for the first time. According to the Bows for Bowman Facebook page, Emily Bowman opened her eyes around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night. Bowman, a former Kennesaw State University student, has been in critical condition at Athens Regional Medical Center since she was allegedly hit by a man driving a red Mazda pick-up truck while she was in the city to celebrate the birthday of a friend. Authorities say a Woodstock man ran a roadblock Saturday night in Bartow County, leading officers on chase that ended in a Cobb crash. Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said Winston Keith Wiggins, 45, was arrested after he allegedly failed to stop at Old Alabama and Bates roads near Emerson where troopers and Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies were conducting a license check. Saxby Chambliss announced on Friday that he is not seeking re-election in 2014. “This is about frustration, both at a lack of leadership from the White House and at the dearth of meaningful action from Congress, especially on issues that are the foundation of our nation’s economic health," Chambliss said in a statement. Snellville and Gwinnett County Police responded to a devastating scene late Wednesday night after an alleged drunk driver caused a total of 15 accidents stretching from Memorial Drive in DeKalb to Walton Court just outside of Snellville city limits. According to Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith, the driver ended his rampage when he crashed into John Boy's restaurant on Highway 78. The five-vehicle crash, on Walton, resulted in a fatality. The victim has been identified as Mintiwal Woldeyhans, 69, of Loganville. The funeral for a first-year Clayton County Police officer killed in the line of duty this week will take place Friday at East Cobb's Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. Sean Callahan, 24, who joined the force only in August, died early Tuesday after being shot twice in the head while responding to a domestic dispute at a motel in Stockbridge on Monday afternoon. Callahan was a graduate of Lassiter High School in Northeast Cobb. The man who killed him, a parolee from Henry County, was shot and killed by police during the incident.
