Freeze Warning in Effect Through Wednesday Morning

The temperature in the Smyrna-Vinings area is expected to drop to 28, but Saturday's high could reach 71.

Smyrna-Vinings and Cobb County are included in a freeze warning covering parts of north and west central Georgia. In effect from 2 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, it warns of temperatures in the mid to upper 20s to low 30s. In Smyrna and Vinings, the mercury is expected to dip to 28, according to the NWS forecast. But it won't be cold long. Heading into the weekend, the area should warm up a lot. NWS forecast Saturday's high to reach 71. Heavy Rain for Smyrna and Vinings

Two more rounds of heavy rain are prompting concerns of flash flooding, extensive street flooding and isolated significant flooding across Smyrna-Vinings and Cobb County areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of Georgia, including Smyrna and Vinings, is in for a deluge as two rounds of heavy rain likely start today and continue through Tuesday, so get your rain boots and umbrellas ready. Two to 4 inches and 4 to 8 inches of rain have already fallen on north and central Georgia, respectively, since the beginning of February, prompting concerns of flash flooding, extensive street flooding and isolated significant flooding, according to the National Weather Service's Hydrologic Outlook. Wind Advisory: Gusts Up to 40 MPH Possible

Severe storms and heavy rainfall are possible as a strong storm system and cold front move across north and central Georgia.

Strong winds are expected to develop as a storm system and cold front move into the Smyrna-Vinings area Wednesday. In effect 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, a wind advisory for north and central Georgia, including Cobb County, warns of 15 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 35 mph, which make driving difficult. "Showers and a few thunderstorms will accompany these winds, but it should be noted that very strong winds will be possible outside of any shower or thunderstorm activity as well," the advisory says. "Recent rains and the additional heavy rainfall anticipated from this system will allow for trees to be uprooted with greater ease." A cold front is expected to push across north and central Georgia this week, ushering in higher temps and possible thunderstorms by Wednesday.

A cold front is expected to push across north and central Georgia this week, ushering in warmer weather and maybe some severe thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. "Instability and wind shear values appear sufficient to support the development of scattered to numerous thunderstorms on Wednesday, especially during the afternoon and evening," meteorologists say in a hazardous weather statement, which applies to Smyrna-Vinings and Cobb County. "Strong upper level support suggest a few storms could be severe across north and central Georgia."
