Meet Patch at Today’s Cobb Business Expo

You can get some free Patch goodies and speak to several Patch staff members at Booth 720 of the Cobb Business-to-Business Expo. The event at the Cobb Galleria Centre will run from 3 to 7 p.m.

There will be more than 150 local businesses with booths at today’s Cobb Business-to-Business Expo, and Patch will be one of them. Patch serves 46 communities in Georgia, with eight sites in Cobb County alone. Several Patch editors and sales staff who serve Cobb as well other metro Atlanta communities will be at booth 720 throughout the event at the Cobb Galleria Centre. The expo runs from 3 to 7 p.m. and attendance is free. The latest inspections by Cobb Public Health include visits to Another Broken Egg, El Jinete Mexican, J. Christopher's, Pier 213 Seafood, Zorba's Kitchen, Yogo Ono, Up Dog and more.

Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from a best possible score of 100. A sample inspection form is attached. Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take even more points. Letter grades assigned are A for totals of 100 to 90 points, B for 89 to 80, C for 79 to 70, and U for less than 70.

Just what is Small Business Saturday and why should you support it in Smyrna and Vinings?

Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over Smyrna-Vinings and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? That’s basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website. Cobb Chamber Recognizes Small Businesses

Blue Wave Computing, Service Fort and Innovative Marketing and Design represented Smyrna on the Cobb Chamber of Commerce's list of 25 top small businesses.

Cobb Chamber of Commerce recently named the top 25 small businesses of the year for Cobb County and three Smyrna businesses were among the honorees. Blue Wave Computing LLC, Innovative Marketing and Design and The Service Fort LLC were designated three of the top 25 small businesses in the county. Pat Mahony, director of marketing for Blue Wave Computing, explained how the IT firm was named to the list. “We built our company in Smyrna and actually built it from the ground up, so we own the building,” she said. “How we differentiate from the competition—we’ve won numerous awards and we’ve continuously grown since our inception.” Blue Wave Computing and the other businesses named to the list had to fill out an application proving that they …

Compassionate California woman temporarily comes to Vinings to put her stamp on the area's newest restaurant.

A new southern cuisine-inspired restaurant has opened this month in the same Streetside at Vinings shopping center that is home to Marlow’s Tavern and the Vermont Mustard Co.. Twelve06 is named such because the proprietor’s son was born on Dec. 6, 2006. The sleek restaurant opened its doors for the first time on, you guessed it - Dec. 6. Currently open daily from 5 p.m. - 11 p.m., Twelve06 will begin opening at 11 a.m. come January. Marilyn Lawson is the vision behind the menu as she draws inspiration from her New Orleans upbringing.
