Summer Sippin' Starts in June

Wine fests, beer fests, a new winery opening, a 'Deliverance' commemorative river fest and more as summer gets underway this month.

A mega Pinot wine tasting comes to Dunwoody, and two North Georgia wine festivals are among the highlights of this June’s wine, beer, and spirits events. Mark your calendars. Designate a driver.  A smorgasbord of activities awaits – everything from a commemorative festival for the movie “Deliverance” to a celebration of the California wines in “Bottle Shock.” There also are the Brookhaven Beer Festival, a “scary-etta" haunted pub crawl, and a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon tasting with wines priced at $100 and more, just to point to a few. The Wine, Spirits & Beers of March

Celebrate St. Paddy's Day throughout Metro Atlanta with Irish whiskey, BBQ, Beer & Bourbon, Naked Wines and more.

March is the month for that favorite party, the time we celebrate Saint Paddy who chased the snakes out of Ireland and converted the heathen. But March 2012 is a month of much more. There are craft beers to seriously contemplate, Pisco Sours to sip in honor of Peru, the High Museum of Art’s magnificent wine tastings and auction, orgasmically grown wines to try. It all starts this weekend with a fine fest celebrating beer, barbecue, babes, and bourbon although not necessarily in that order. March 3, from noon-6 p.m. on that Saturday, Daisy Duke and The Boots Girls will be dancing while you taste it, sip it and pork it, all to live music at Atlantic Station at the Atlanta Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival. Get your favorite designated driver. They…

Smyrna wine bar named top 10 in Atlanta

The Wine Cellars is Smyrna's award-winning wine shop located in Market Village.

The Wine Cellars was recently named one of the top 10 wine bars in Atlanta by Gayot.com and owner Renne Rowe couldn’t be more excited. “I was thrilled,” she said. “I screamed, ‘Oh my God I made it!’” Rowe said she was honored to be listed among some of the top wine bars in Metro Atlanta like Alon’s Bakery and Market and d’Vine Wine Bar and Shop. Rowe was surprised to learn she was being considered for the top 10 list. Jane Harvey, a restaurant editor for Gayot.com and a writer for Atlanta Wine School, called Rowe to say she was on the way to the shop. “It was kind of sort like I didn’t know, but I knew she was coming,” Rowe said. “She sat at the bar and looked over our list and asked questions and things like that. She had been around town…

Great wine, food and desserts indeed!

Whatever your taste, you can find it here in Smyrna-Vinings.

Some people can be a bit fanatical about the type and quality of vino they imbibe. Others are happy to drink anything that isn’t labeled “Boone’s Farm.” Regardless of which side you most resemble, The Wine Cellars Pinot Noir Smackdown is guaranteed to be a tippling good time. Seriously, according to owner Renee Rowe, Pinot Smackdown is “a global celebration of the world’s most expressive wine grape combined with a knock-down, drag-out cage fight between your favorite Pinot-producing regions.” We’re intrigued. On Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., drop into The Wine Cellars to find out who the purple contenders are. Rowe comments, “Here's the twist: Tweet your vote for the world’s best Pinot to @PinotSmackdown, then join us at The Wine Cellars and…
