Finalists for Vinings Business of the Year Announced

Five Vinings businesses have been selected as finalists for Vinings Business Association 2012 Business of the Year award.

The Vinings Business Association (VBA) has announced five finalists for its 2012 Vinings Business of the Year award. The 5 finalists are: “We are happy to recognize five Vinings area organizations for their commitment to the Vinings community and for their continued presence," VBA Chair Glenn Christian said. "They have contributed to the overall definition of our community and we congratulate them on their achievements.” Each of the finalists will be invited to speak at the Dec. 4 luncheon held at Social Vinings to share some of their secrets on how they have succeeded. Vinings to Launch Keeping Pace Campaign

The campaign launched by Vinings Historic Preservation Society aims at raising $250,000 in 2013 to help preserve local historic sites.

The Vinings Historic Preservation Society (VHPS) will officially launch the Keeping Pace Campaign on Nov. 10. It is being launched in conjunction with several restoration projects to enhance and update the historic properties in Vinings.  Donations from local residents have been put to work, contributing to the recently completed Yarborough House repair project, as well as The Pace House and The Pavilion that are still in need of significant repair. The Yarborough House project was able to refurbish the exterior of the historic building by removing lead-based paint, repairing the chimney and the fence, improving signage and curb appeal, and replacing the roof. History in Danger in Vinings

The historic Yarbrough House is in dire need of repairs to its roof.

One of the most beloved historic buildings in Vinings is in danger and needs the community’s help to make some urgent repairs. The Yarbrough House sits in the heart of Vinings with the Pace House and the Vinings Inn. It serves as the main office for the Vinings Historic Preservation Society. “We have a contractor on the board and he saw something about the roof and got the roofing people over here,” said Gillian Greer, executive director of the Vinings Historic Preservation Society. “Well the roof’s about to start leaking. It’s probably just the age.” Greer added that the building is also in dire need of repainting, but because of the house’s age a paint crew that specializes in lead-based paint is required to do the job. “We’re right here…

Tee Off For Good Causes in Smyrna-Vinings

Ready, set, golf!

Fore! There’s an array of golf tournaments in the coming weeks some of which benefit good causes. The King Springs Elementary 5th Annual Golf Classic is Sunday, April 29 at Fox Creek Golf Club. The tournament is open to teams of up to four players. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the renovation of King Springs Elementary School’s blacktop. The registration fee is $100 per golfer and includes a goody bag, green fees, cart rental and a buffet following the tournament at Bella’s Pizzeria.
