Whitefield Student Heads to State Playoffs for Two Sports

Robby Keough may be a state champion twice before his sophomore year. He's competing at the state level in two sports, tennis and track.

  Whitefield Academy freshman Robby Keough, son of Kevin and Diana Keough of Atlanta, is headed to the state playoffs in tennis…and track. A week after winning the 5A regional tennis championship as part of Whitefield Academy’s varsity boys tennis team, Keough also qualified for state sectionals in track and field, placing third in the 1600m with a time of 4:23.75. According to MileSplit.us, at the time of the race, Robby had the fastest time in the U.S. in the 1600m for a high school freshman. Dubbed a “Rising Star” by In the Game magazine in November 2010, Robby is an anomaly, excelling in two same-season sports. “Here’s a kid who trains three to four days a week around a tennis season and still manages to excel in both sports,” said …

Whitefield WolfPack Scores Fourth Region Title

The team now advances to the state tournament, which begins Saturday, Feb. 25 at Whitefield Academy.

Whitefield Academy's varsity basketball team defeated Landmark Christian 71 to 45 Saturday night to win it's fourth consecutive region title, going undefeated in region play all four years. Whitefield has won their region championship eight of the last 11 years and won state titles in 2003 and 2009. "Honestly, I could not be more proud of our guys," said Tyrone Johnson, Whitefield Academy's varsity basketball coach. "God has truly blessed us this season, it is a huge accomplishment to represent Region 9 as the tournament champion. I think it puts us in position to acheive our remaining goals for the year. Private vs Public No More

The GHSA votes to have separate Class A championships in all sports for public and private schools, including Whitefield Academy, beginning next season.

Campbell may have won just one football game last season, but the Spartans are stepping up in class. That’s because the Georgia High School Association’s State Executive Committee approved on Tuesday the reclassifications that were proposed in November, which includes the creation of Class AAAAAA (yes, six!) for the biggest high schools in Georgia. The vote was 47-1, with one pass. Reclassification was based on this year’s enrollment of ninth- to 11th-graders for each of its member schools. The Spartans, now in Class AAAAA, are among the 63 schools out of the 65 originally proposed that will make up Class AAAAAA for 2012-14.
