Commissioner Bob Ott could discuss GDOT's plans for a new bridge spanning the Chattahoochee River that is scheduled to be complete by December 2014.
District 2 Commissioner Bob Ott will host a town hall meeting tonight in the community room of the East Cobb Library located at 4880 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta. Ott will speak with constituents between 7-9 p.m. and discuss a wide range of topics. One item of discussion could be this week’s announcement by the Georgia Department of Transportation that it will be spending $12.6 million (part of a $54 million spending package on 10 new transportation infrastructure improvement and maintenance projects across the state) for a new bridge across the Chattahoochee River. Vinings Church organized volunteer effort to address numerous areas including the Chattahoochee National Park, which in an unrelated story is accepting public input on the development of its commercial services strategy.
Volunteers are still needed for Saturday’s serveCOBB event organized by Vinings Church that will assist 30 underprivileged areas around the county. Home Depot and Chick-fil-A are lending their support with discounted materials and free food for the July 23 event. Area schools that will be given attention and love will be Nickajack and Teasley elementary and Campbell Middle. The Chattahoochee River National Recreational Area will also be a site of service. The Chattahoochee River draws fun-seekers, but without proper safety precautions a day on the water can lead to a call for help from local rescue teams.
The Chattahoochee River is one of the metro area’s most attractive features. In fact, visitors from all over the Southeast make the trek to swim, float and paddle down its famed waters. Still, as much fun as the celebrated river is, its innocent appeal can turn dangerous – even deadly – when safety precautions are disregarded, say authorities. Part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s mission is to constantly educate people on the river’s dangers. Politically influential Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods backs proposal to just rebuild Chattahoochee River Bridge between Cobb, Fulton counties.
The small Paces Battle neighborhood, nestled on the Chattahoochee River, sees its quiet, bucolic lifestyle threatened by a plan to make Cobb Parkway six lanes from Paces Mill Road in Cobb to Northgate Drive in Fulton. The Buckhead community received help Thursday night in its fight against the Georgia Department of Transportation plan to remove its heavily wooded buffer from the highway. The politically influential Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods voted unanimously to support a Paces Battle proposal to limit the construction plan. Another road widening project that waste our tax dollars. The 41hwy is busy twice aday morning and afternoon rush hour The rest of the time it has only moderate traffic with no congestion. If only GDOT could put people back to work in other useful ways.
