Police: Smyrna Girl, 7, Raped

She said she was told not to tell anyone about the alleged sexual abuse.

A Smyrna man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a 7-year-old girl. Between Oct. 1 and March 13, investigators with the Smyrna Police Department said Jose Alberto Dealmonte raped the girl "more than one time inside her residence." During one incident, the girl told authorities that she tried to get away, but Dealmonte allegedly "grabbed her by the leg and pulled her back to him," according to a Cobb County criminal warrant. The girl said that Dealmonte told her not to tell anyone about the alleged sexual abuse. "Accused called it their 'secret,' " an officer wrote in the warrant. Dealmonte was arrested Thursday night on charges that include rape, child molestation and cruelty to children in the first degree, according to …

Children are warned to beware of strangers. Adults are told to keep an eye out for strangers in their neighborhoods. Actually, statistics prove that you are far more likely to be assaulted by someone you know and a child is far more likely to be molested by a family member or friend.   more ›

3 Smyrna Cases in Boy Scout Sexual Abuse Files

The Boy Scouts of America this week made public thousands of case files it has kept on suspected molesters for decades.

There are three cases of possible sexual abuse in Smyrna, among a total of 97 cases in Georgia, by Boy Scout troop leaders and volunteers listed in the organization's sexual abuse files released Thursday to the public. The files, known as "perversion files" or "ineligible volunteer files", had been kept confidential for decades, until attorneys representing two abuse victims in Oregon demanded they be made public as part of a $18.5 million settlement in 2010. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) fought the release until the Oregon Supreme Court ruled against it. The files released this week cover the years 1965-1985, and an expanded list of around 5,000 case files, kept between 1947 and 2005, has been compiled in a database by the Los Angeles …

Our hearts go out to all the boy scouts who have been sexually abused, they never deserved to be treated so inhumane. Child sex predators need to be kept far away from kids forever... BUT, an even more powerful danger is when high ranking officials enable, empower, and cover up these crimes against kids. They need to be held accountable for allowing more innocent kids to be sexually abused. It is…   more ›

In the past week, Smyrna and Cobb police have charged three men with sex crimes against minors and one man with sexual assault.

Smyrna and Cobb police have charged several men with sex crimes against minors in the past week, but officials say they don’t think it indicates a historical increase in sex crimes for the area. The Marietta Daily Journal reported Tuesday that Cobb police allege that Joshua Thomas Hill, 24 of Marietta, took a 14-year-old girl to a Smyrna hotel where she was forced to have sex with several adults. He is charged with felony trafficking a person for sexual servitude, rape and child molestation among other charges. Smyrna police also report that 25-year-old Juan Aleman allegedly sexually assaulted a nine-year-old neighbor. Officer Michael Smith, Smyrna’s public information officer, told Smyrna-Vinings Patch that Aleman, who lives at an …
