Update: Cobb Parkway Reopens

It had been closed due to a bomb threat.

Cobb Parkway has reopened, according to WSB-TV. It had been closed due to a supicious package in a shopping center near the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Akers Mill Road. The package was later detonated.  Cobb Parkway remains closed in both directions near Akers Mill Road due to a bomb threat. The threat was made at a AT&T store located in a shopping center near the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Akers Mill Road, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Updated: Fatal Crash Near Cumberland Mall

A man died after a Friday night crash where his Chevrolet was struck twice at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Akers Mill Road.

Cobb authorities have released the identity of the deceased driver after notifying his next of kin. Warrren Thomas of Atlanta, 59, was pronounced dead upon his arrival at the hospital after the Friday night crash. The Cobb County Police Department is still investigating the fatal crash, and asks anyone with information to call 770-499-3987. A fatal crash occurred Friday evening at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Akers Mill Road near Cumberland Mall in Vinings, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Holiday Comes Early for Local Veteran

A local veteran and his family were surprised Monday at the Sears store at Cumberland Mall.

Sergeant First Class Charles Coleman is a soldier from the Atlanta area who finds himself in a difficult position: preparing for another deployment while coping with the challenges of his daughter recently being placed on the bone marrow transplant list. To make the holiday season easier for his family in particular, Sears Heroes at Home surprised the Coleman family with gifts from Sears, including a computer and a gift card to purchase items for their home. Over the past five years, the Sears Heroes at Home Wish Registry has raised $17 million through customer donations and has helped over 83,000 military families during the holidays.

Rosano Wensley Bundel, 28, of Douglasville was found guilty of killing George B. Tabetando in a counterfeit money deal gone bad outside Cumberland Mall.

UPDATE: Rosano Wensley Bundel will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of George B. Tabetando, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported. Bundel was found guilty Monday of shooting Tabetando outside Macy's in Cumberland Mall during Thanksgiving weekend 2011.The AJC said that a DEA agent testified at Bundel's trial that he was also being investigated in connection with a drug smuggling operation. Cobb Police: Smyrna-Vinings auto break-ins a continuing concern

Precinct 3 officials remind citizens to help be the eyes of your neighborhood, and remind that those can be a pair of anonymous eyes.

Going back a week, here is a summary of the Southeast Cobb Police Precinct 3 PENS (Police Email Notification System) bulletin, which updates citizens on crime trends and related information. Located at 1901 Cumberland Parkway, Precinct 3 serves the Cumberland/Galleria, Vinings and Smyrna areas, but not in the city limits. Captain Dale E. Bolenbaugh and police say auto break-ins are a continuing concern.  Citizens have reported change, credit cards, wallets, CD players, GPS, speakers and tools, among other items, stolen from their vehicles. Culprits are looking for anything they can sell or pawn. Criminals begin by checking door handles in search of unlocked vehicles. The next step is to break windows or punch locks. Sears Holdings to shut doors on 100-plus stores

Company announces that up to 120 Kmarts and Sears stores will close, but locations, including the Sears at Cumberland Mall, have not yet been disclosed.

The Sears Holdings Corp announced Tuesday that it will close between 100 and 120 of its namesake chains and Kmart stores, citing sagging consumer electronic and home appliance holiday sales as a reason. The Cumberland Mall Sears staff told Patch that the store will remain open and operate as usual until further notice is given. Sears, along with Macy’s and Costco, anchors the mall. Sears Holdings Corp. said it has yet to determine which stores will close but said it will post on http://www.searsmedia.com when a final list is compiled. Cumberland Murder Suspect Surrenders

Douglasville resident Rosano Wensly Bundel, 28, surrendered at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on Friday night at the advice of his attorney, Cobb County police announced. Bundel is being held without bond on a charge of felony murder in the shooting death of Powder Springs resident George Tabetando, 29, on Saturday night at Cumberland Mall. The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service worked with the Cobb police in searching for Bundel. 29-year-old old George B. Tabetando was shot and killed Saturday night during an incident that began with a physical fight outside Macy's.

Update Dec. 1 10 a.m: The Cobb County Police Department has identified 28-year-old Rosano Wensly Bundel of Douglasville as a suspect in the Saturday night homicide of 29-year-old old George B. Tabetando. Police officials are asking for the public’s assistance in helping them to locate Bundel, who is considered to be armed and dangerous. Investigators have secured an arrest warrant for him.
