Pedestrian Killed in Smyrna
The woman entered the roadway for unknown reasons.
A 79-year-old Smyrna woman was struck and killed Monday night as she tried to cross Cumberland Parkway, just east of South Cobb Drive. The accident occurred just before 9 p.m. Monday when Angie C. Scroggins entered the roadway for unknown reasons, said Officer Mike Bowman, the spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department. "Preliminary information from investigators indicates that the driver of a gray 2011 Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on Cumberland Parkway behind an unrelated pickup truck in the left lane," he said. "The unrelated pickup truck had to slow abruptly to avoid striking the pedestrian."
