ReplyI want a TJ's here but I'm afraid the odds aren't in our favor. It started on the west coast (more than a third of its stores are in California). Recently it's been aggressively adding stores along the corridor between Boston and Washington, D.C. It's also expanding into new markets like Florida, Texas, and upstate New York. In 2012 they plan to open 25 to 30 new locations but the south/southeast doesn't seem to be their target location.

ReplyNow that I think about it I do have an opinion about the above article. What comes to mind if offshoring jobs. They're now bringing them back onshore because it's turning out to be a failed experiment. Could outsourcing government services suffer the same fate.

Don't have an opinion but I found it interesting. (Maywood CA is the town the LAT was investigating for possible malfeasance and wound up exposing the corruption in Bell CA.) -

Reply"Call it like I see it" is Sean Murphy of the Smyrna Downtown Development Authority. He sits on the board with the mayor. He has an agenda. He lives in Smyrna Heights.

ReplyIt's a shame that the Cheney Woods neighborhood had to hire a lawyer but this city does not have a reputation for acting in the best interest of its citizens. Just talk to the neighborhoods adversely affected by Glock.
The expansion of this daycare center will have an impact on Cheney Woods. Their concerns are valid.

ReplyCharles Rowland, Jill Rowland Meiser, and all others in support of SAE - I hope the school board has the sensibility to vote for the school. From everything I've read it seems you have more than the public schools to offer. My family includes educators and former educators. Public education has been in decline for a long time. Books have been written on the subject. SAE sounds like a solution to a failing system. I think what you are attempting to do is honorable and you have my complete support.

ReplyI was in a hurry when I posted the above link. There are other great articles available through that ULI link.
What I have a hard time understanding is that there are Smyrnans who have advocated for these concepts and have been criticized. We are experiencing tremendous changes in our lives - the rise of social media and the Internet, the death of big box retailers, the failing economy - that are causing a paradigm shift in our concept of suburban and urban living.
My opinion is that the city is behind the times (to use a cliche). I also believe that our leadership is not tuned into the challenges and changes of our new world. They seem old school (to use another cliche).
I'm not on the attack but I'm serious about my concerns for Smyrna and its residents. There are cities (big and small) that have faced larger challenges than this city's and have dealt with them in innovative ways.

ReplyI'm in retail at the executive level. The best example I've seen of persuading a retailer to locate in a certain area was a petition that was sent to the highest level.

Employers starting offering insurance coverage to recruit and retain employees. But personal and portable insurance is what we need.
