When I moved to the city of Atlanta after college, only a couple of years ago, I came ready to start the second half of my life; eager to get settled with my career in the media industry, and meet Mr. Right. I soon realized dating was going to be more of challenged in the adult world than I thought. I first started seeing a guy who was a friend-of-a-friend. Because he was still in college, it didn't end up working out. I was looking for a serious, long-term relationship. He wasn't at that point of his life yet.

I'd go out with my girl friends. Always on the prowl. One night, I started talking to a guy which turned into an hour long conversation. He asked for my number. We were both clearly interested, even discussing getting together the following week. I never heard from him again. I don't understand the games behind dating sometimes!

Being new to the city, I didn't have a lot of friends, so getting set-up on a date was few and far between. The alternative, a bar, was just an awkward situation. Who knows if the guy your eye balling across the room is even single. (I always forget I'm to that age where you need to start looking for a ring. I was flirting with a guy at a wedding recently only for him to mention “well, my wife and I”). Or, if they are available, are they interested? Many aren't willing to face the risk of rejection to find out.

And so, my now hobby, if you will, of Online Dating began a year and a half ago on a snowy February night with a frozen pizza and a 6-pack of hard cider. I created a profile on a free site my friend had been having success with (she is now married from the site). Unbeknownst to me that I would almost instantly be completely engulfed with the sea of prospects, and spend hours searching, emailing, and already rejecting.

Since that night, which turned into the wee hours of the morning, online dating has become apart of my everyday life. Throughout my ventures I have stories from dates I couldn't make up if I tried, to a sad tale of heartbreak. Not a sport I wish I had to partake in...would rather be living happily ever after. But for now, I am on the hunt for the one.
