Mayor Bacon simply cannot stand criticism of himself. Using the police to scare those who is not unusual in the city. Whether the police arrest them, follow them home after meetings, or whatever, this kind of intimidation is nothing new. This time the city had to pay...good. But, what we really need is to clean house at city hall. Mayor Bacon and his supporters seem to believe he should serve for life. They may be right because most voters don't even bother to participate in city elections anymore as only one in ten bothers to vote.

Why does the City of Smyrna allow out of town food trucks to do business in Smyrna once a week FREE, plus subsidizing their visits? Don't city officials realize that local restaurants that are required to PURCHASE a business license are losing money on Tuesdays? I read that one of the ladies on Council is even opposed to charging these out of town food trucks a permit fee!!! Shouldn't they at least be required to cover their costs to do business here like the rest of us? I am not opposed to "Food Truck Tuesday" but these folks should be treated like any other business that operates in Smyrna, not be given special treatment at local businesses expense.

The city is passing far more cost on to retail consumers than the increased cost of the water it buys wholesale...When the water authority on which Mayor Bacon sits raises the wholesale rate by a certain percentage it is misleading to say that same percentage must be passed on to retail customers...for example 8% of a $1 dollar wholesale is 8 cents but 8% of retail at $2 is 16 cents. The city is thus INCREASING the cost of water to its customers at a rate much higher than it is, in fact, being charged itself. It is misleading to the public to say it is just passing the rate increase along. This is simply wrong.

Does Patch just do PR for Smyrna and Cobb County...?....This is an outrageous increase.....and, for the record when the City of Smyrna passes along its WHOLESALE increase to its RETAIL customers it makes a handsome profit....Let me give you an example...let's say the city pays one dollar wholesale for X amount of water and sells it for two dollars retail...when the wholesale rate goes up 8% the city will pay $1.08 and when it passes this 8% rate increase along to its retail customers (citizens) that it is charging $2 THAT AMOUNTS TO A RETAIL CHARGE OF $2.16...so the city pays 8 cents more but charges 16 cents...the fact of the matter is the city loves these rate increases as it actually increases their revenue...and lets not forget, Mayor Bacon is a member of the water authority that voted for the 8% rate increase in the first place....I think the old expression, "highway robbery" would be an appropriate response for Smyrna citizens.

Personally, I hope TSPLOST and Stoner fail....neither will get my vote. I'm tired of spending money on roads for developers and sick of Stoner using his position for personal gain.

Freya Stark...you called it just right....that's why so many subdivisions use Vinings in their name...trying to distance themselves from Smyrna as much as possible. And, for Amy, yes a lot of folks...business leaders...developers...those in real estate...those who INVEST in communities.... do know who the mayor is. But, you missed most of my point....its not so much WHO he is as HOW he leads.....he is far more concerned with the trappings of being mayor and being called mayor than with improving city government....changes that threaten his "status" is an affront to him.

As long as Mayor Bacon is Mayor (his father was Mayor before him) the perception of Smyrna as a redneck community will not change. Smyrna will maintain the image of that old TV show the Dukes of Hazzard with Boss Hog as Mayor and a step and fetch it council reminiscent of Hazzard's police department, serving at Hog's pleasure.
