Phone: 770-265-5004
Hometown: Mobile, Ala.
Birthday: June 3
Sydney Busby is no stranger to Smyrna-Vinings Patch. Before taking the post as editor she served as a contributor to the site. Sydney moved to Smyrna in early 2011 with her husband Kent, a software developer at The Home Depot, and their two dogs, Banjo and Charlie.
Though she’s a new resident, Sydney has taken a keen interest in the Smyrna-Vinings community. She is a volunteer tutor and mentor with Path to Shine, a Smyrna-based nonprofit serving the under-served children of Cobb County. She can often be found at Lake Court Park with her dogs or enjoying a cup of coffee at Rev.
Originally from Mobile, Ala., Sydney graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Auburn University in Dec. 2010. The Auburn Tigers are first in her heart, but she’s learning to make room for the Bulldogs, too.
Politics
How would you describe your political beliefs?
I would describe myself as just left of moderate. I don’t believe in toeing the party line and prefer to reach my own conclusions about the issues.
Are you a registered member of any party?
No
Religion
I was raised Roman Catholic, which instilled in me a deep sense of social justice. I believe strongly in the innate value of each individual and strive to love my neighbors everyday.
Local Hot-Button Issues
I believe the most important issue facing Smyrna-Vinings in the coming years is education. Cobb County schools are reputed to be some of the best in the nation, but there’s always room for improvement. Providing the children of Smyrna and Vinings with the best education today will ensure the success of the community for years to come.
