Charges Filed in Fatal Vinings Crash

The driver faces a charge of second degree vehicular homicide.

Nearly a month after a 44-year-old Atlanta man died after he was ejected from a motorcycle at the intersection of Cobb Parkway South and Paces Mill Road, a 28-year-old Atlanta man has been arrested in connection with the crash.

Charges were filed Wednesday against Demond Michael Tate in the June 22 accident that killed Marc R. Ullmann.

"Accused's actions caused the collision which resulted in Ullmann's death," according to the arrest warrant.

Just before 9 p.m. June 22, Ullmann was approaching the intersection of Cobb Parkway South and Paces Mill Road when Tate attempted to make a U-turn to get back on westbound Paces Mill Road, Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said last month.

That "unsafe U-turn forced the victim to make a brake application in an attempt to avoid a collision," according to the July 17 warrant. "As a result of the brake application, the motorcycle began to slide and fell onto its left side."

Ullmann ultimately "collided with the left side" of Tate's Mercedes.

Tate faces multiple charges, including second degree vehicular homicide, improper U-turn and two driving violations. All are misdemeanor offenses. He was released from the Cobb County Adult Detention Center Thursday on a $10,000 bond.
