No Injuries Reported From Cooking Fire at Delmar Gardens

The cooking fire was extinguished by the overhead sprinkler system soon after it began.

No injuries were reported after a pot left on a stove started a small cooking fire at , a senior living community at 404 King Springs Village Parkway.

Smyrna Fire Chief Jason Lanyon said the fire department received notice that a fire alarm had been triggered at the assisted living community at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. The department made contact with staff who alerted to the department to a possible fire on the third floor of an individual unit on the assisted living side of the complex.

When officers arrived on the scene the fire had been extinguished by one of the apartment’s sprinkler heads. An evacuation was underway and residents from the assisted living wing were safely relocated to the cafeteria, Lanyon said.

When Smyrna-Vinings Patch arrived at the scene there were several Smyrna and Cobb fire engines on location. Firefighters were working to clean up the water from the sprinkler head.

“We always respond with a lot of equipment and a lot of personnel when we have a high life hazard like this,” Lanyon said. “That’s why you see Smyrna Fire and Cobb Fire and Metro Ambulance. Although most situations don’t turn out to be real serious, but this is the potential for it. However, I will tell you this is one of the safest buildings in the city. It’s got a full operating sprinkler system.”
