Valentine's Day news you can use

Here's a roundup of Valentine's Day events for you and your sweetheart (or not) in Smyrna-Vinings.

February may be a short month, but it is packed with Valentine’s Day events in and around Smyrna and Vinings.

Leading off the roundup of Valentine’s Day fun are two events for the kids. Vinings Historic Preservation Society still has a limited number of spots available for its Vinings Valentines celebration Thursday, Feb. 9 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Old Pavilion on Paces Mill Road. The party features a Valentine-themed craft sponsored by Macaroni Kid and treats made by Avenue Catering Concepts. Each child also receives a goody bag to take home.

Gillian Greer, VHPS executive director, said that as of this printing there are still 10 spots available. Vinings Valentines is free to members of the Vinings Historic Preservation Society. Admission is $5 for non-members. Parking is available at Vinings United Methodist Church. A reservation is required to attend and can be placed by calling VHPS at 770-432-3343 or by sending an email to vhps1874@bellsouth.net.

at one of Smyrna-Vinings Patch’s four Chick-fil-A locations on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fathers and daughters will spend some time together while they enjoy dinner, great conversation and several special activities.

 has created a three-course prix-fixe dinner to celebrate the year’s most romantic holiday. The Valentine's Day dinner comes with the choice of an appetizer like fried green tomatoes or grilled gulf oysters, an entrée like pork osso bucco or low country shrimp and grits and a dessert like strawberry shortcake or chocolate toffee pudding for $39.95 per person plus tax and gratuity. is also offering a prix-fixe Valentine’s Day Dinner that includes a wine pairing with each course. The first course features a lobster martini with passion fruit mousse. The second course is a crab-stuffed Chateau briand of beef bernaise, braised endive and gorgonzola potato croquette. Round out the meal with champagne-infused grapes and a cheese plate. Dinner is $45 per person and reservations are required to attend. Reservations are required for this dinner on Valentine’s Day and can be made by calling 770-435-1887.

But don’t think you have to be in a couple to enjoy Valentine’s Day. Even those without a sweetheart can celebrate Singles Awareness Day. Atkins Park Tavern is hosting an Anti-Valentine’s Day party Saturday, Feb.11. The party kicks off at 10 p.m. and features a live performance by the band Homefront.

Looking for some romantic entertainment for Valentine's month? has just the ticket. The romantic comedy Coming Apart by Fred Carmichael, directed by Barbara Rudy, will be on the Stellar Cellar Stage Feb. 3 through 18.

"It's the story of a couple, both successful writers, who simultaneously declare they want a divorce," according to a news release. "Hilarity ensues as they try to live together in divided space and the wife writes a book that parallels reality. In the end, of course, love reigns!"

The BeLoved Valentine's Art Market on Saturday, Feb. 11, invites you to Shop an artisan market, Taste a variety of dishes by Christophe's Kitchen and Support the charity with a $10 donation at the door.

In 2011, the BeLoved Art Show donated $1,200 to the Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence. This year they hope to increase their giving by adding an hourly raffle drawing. Thrive, the youth ministry at Sacred Tapestry United Methodist Church for grades 6 through 12, will be hosting a Valentine Dinner fundraiser for their missions outreach goals. Suggested donation is $10 per adult and child. Heart-shaped balloons will be available for $1 each. Continuous seating from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 13. Biscuits, bacon, French toast, fruit, juice and coffee are among the featured menu items.
