Whitefield WolfPack Scores Fourth Region Title

The team now advances to the state tournament, which begins Saturday, Feb. 25 at Whitefield Academy.

Whitefield Academy's varsity basketball team defeated Landmark Christian 71 to 45 Saturday night to win it's fourth consecutive region title, going undefeated in region play all four years. Whitefield has won their region championship eight of the last 11 years and won state titles in 2003 and 2009.

"Honestly, I could not be more proud of our guys," said Tyrone Johnson, Whitefield Academy's varsity basketball coach. "God has truly blessed us this season, it is a huge accomplishment to represent Region 9 as the tournament champion. I think it puts us in position to acheive our remaining goals for the year. I believe our best is yet to come."

Whitefield was led in scoring by senior and UGA signee Kenny Gaines with 24 points. The big man duo of Eric Lockett (19 points) and Lorenzo Carter (17 points) dominated the boards with a combined 17 rebounds. Whitefield begins State Tournament play Saturday, Feb. 25 at home.
